Zoniënklanken

Musical walk through the Forêt de Soignes
Sunday 22 April 2018 - 13h00
GC WaBo - Delleurlaan 43, 1170 Watermaal-Bosvoorde
SUN 22/04

Zoniënklanken is a big musical walk through the Forêt de Soignes. Put on your walking shoes and go for 5, 10, 15 or 20km to discover the sounds of the forest and world music in a fantastic natural setting: 4000ha of woods, 5 nature reserves and rare wildlife. You may come across a Korean Squirrel, the Swift Warbler or the Fire Salamander! But you will also discover there talented musicians.

The composer and concertina player Gerardo Agnese studied at the Conservatory of Rosario in Argentina. He studied tango with the legendary Domingo Federico. He is part of several tango ensembles, but recently started a duet with guitarist Camilo Cordoba.

Neboa is the little sister of the Galician group A Contrabanda. They revisit traditional Galician songs and transmit them with the help of polyphonies and many Galician instruments: scallops, latas (old canned olive oil), pandeiro (square tambourine from northern Spain and Portugal), tambor and pandeireta (tambourine). The songs are punctuated by gaita tunes, Galician bagpipes.

Gueladio Bâ is the son of the famous West African musician and hoddu player Saidou Bâ. At the age of 12, Ali Farka Toure, who was a friend of his father, offered him to play guitar with him, and encouraged him to continue his path as a musician. Since then, Gueladio has built a career as a singer and guitarist in Mauritania and Senegal, where he has collaborated with Baaba Maal. He finds in Samba Django, the nephew of Baaba Maal, an ideal partner! The trio is completed by the violinist and trumpet player Ananta Roosens, whom we know from the Dromedary Siesta and the Gotan Project.

Antonio Segura comes from Seville, the cradle of flamenco. He began to learn guitar at the age of 11 from great flamenco guitarists: Isodoro Carmona, Mario Escuero, Pedro Escalona, Paquito Fernandez … He quickly became one of the great names of flamenco guitarists in the flat country and participated in the groups De Grana and Oleo. He comes here in an intimate form with José Ligero (vocals, palmas), who knows like no other the style of the gypsy neighborhood Triana.

To end the day, at the WaBo Garden, the Muziekpublique Folk Ensemble, under the direction of Rebecca Van Bogaert (flute) and Jonas Malfliet (accordion), will play dancing folk melodies: Scottish, rondo, Mazurka, dance of Auvergne folklore, waltz, polka…
